SUPERYACHT INITIAL SURVEY

Motor Yacht – Mohasuwei

 

ABOUT MOHASUWEI

The 32m Motor yacht, Mohasuwei, built by Italian shipbuilders Cantieri di Pisa at their Pisa shipyard and launched in 2009. The Mohasuwei underwent a major refit in 2018 and boasts superior engineering which includes a planing GRP hull and GRP superstructure.

 

Powered by 2 MTU (16V2000 ) 2,399hp diesel engines and propelled by her twin screw propellers, capable of a top speed of 22 knots, and comfortably cruises at 15 knots.  Her ‘zero speed stabilisers’ which work at anchor, increases on-board comfort when the yacht is stationary, particularly in rough waters.

 

THE ISSUE

Mohasuwei proposed to operate in Australia as a Domestic Commercial Vessel (DCV).

 

THE SOLUTION

Maritime Survey Australia (MSA) completed an initial Vessel Survey on the Mohasuwei. As she was built to Class in accordance with the Large Yacht Code. This presented MSA Surveyors with a starting point to make application for a Certificate of Survey and Certificate of Operation as a DCV. After an initial condition survey, MSA were able to give the client a comprehensive report detailing the requirements and what classes of operation are achievable. The condition survey is completed as a “gap analysis” to outline some of the challenges immediately. This gives the client enough information to make an informed decision regarding the cost benefit of having a commercial vessel.

 

MSA then completed all of the required surveys to achieve Class 2C and 1D operations as a DCV.  The vessel surveys included the commissioning, engineering, electrical, load line and light ship assessment.

 

The vessel is also operated with a 10m RHIB Tender, which MSA assessed as a Non Survey Vessel. This was made easier as the RHIB was build to the appropriate standard. After a condition survey we were able to complete a final survey and application.

 

The complete process for the Mohasuwei, from the initial condition survey to the issue of a temporary operations permit was completed in 12 weeks. This ensured Mohasuwei was able to operate in time for the Sydney Summer season as a commercial vessel.
