Thanks to Travis Hurley and the team at O2Marine for engaging with Maritime Survey Australia Marine Surveyor Calum Kennedy to complete a structural assessment in the form of a “drop test” in Perth this week, for the initial survey of the Rotomolded hull, Exemption 40 Plaka Boats Centre console 4.6m vessel.
Where compliance with equivalent approvals are not available (CE), and empirical methods (ISO/AS4132) are not supported for the given construction material (Rotomolded Medium-density PE), proof testing may still be available to some vessels. Destructive testing, tests may damage the vessel if construction is not fit for purpose, so it is not a test that is widely used. This robust little vessel satisfactorily passed!
ISO 12215-5 Appendix D provides a procedure for a drop test, this is used to verify construction ensure compliance against the standards.
