Hart Marine recently commissioned their latest Pilot boat, Spirit for Flinders Ports, South Australia.
This is the first vessel they have delivered with Volvo Penta IPS drives. The innovative feature is a testament to Hart Marine’s dedication to sustainable innovation. Equipped with cutting-edge IPS drives, this technology enhances fuel efficiency and reduces environmental footprint. The twin counter-rotating propellers operate in undisturbed water, optimising thrust parallel to the hull, resulting in enhanced forward propulsion and manoeuvrability. This is especially significant during pilot boat transfers, where a controlled and stable environment is the ultimate objective.
During sea trials MSA surveyor James Nolan was highly impressed with the manoeuvrability of the vessel particularly at low speed. Spirit is a 17.10m Class 2C GRP vessel, equipped for 2 crew and 6 special personnel and powered by twin Volvo 515 kW main engines.
