AMSA Accredited Marine Surveyor / Shipwright
Byron Miller
Byron is an AMSA Accredited Marine Surveyor based in Rye on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. Byron has a Bachelor of Aquatic Science majoring in Chemistry and Aquatic Biology gained at Deakin University, Warrnambool.
After working as an environmental chemist, he left this field and completed a mature age apprenticeship in boatbuilding/shipwright at the Wooden Boat Shop, Sorrento in 2004. This included the complete construction of 2 displacement cruisers and being awarded the 2003 Victoria University apprentice of the year.
Before becoming a Surveyor, Byron had been running his own business as a Shipwright completing large restorations, repairs and maintenance. Byron joined MSA in 2020 and begun an internal traineeship in Marine Surveying.
Byron loved working in the construction side of the marine industry however, when the opportunity to work and study with Maritime Survey Australia as a Marine Surveyor he jumped at the opportunity.
