Maritime Survey Australia (MSA) surveyor James Nolan has recently been granted a renewal of his recognition as Surveyor by Maritime New Zealand in accordance with section 41 of the Maritime Transport Act and rule 44.22 of the maritime rules, and section 270 of the Maritime Transport Act and marine protection rules. The certification authorises James to undertake surveys, inspections and design approvals and issue certificates and reports in accordance with assigned categories, as provided for by maritime rules and marine protection rules.

DASA Design approval – Steel and Aluminium for ships up to 45 metres, restricted to Offshore Limits
DAF Design approval – Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) for ships up to 45 metres, restricted to Offshore Limits
DAP Design approval – Plastic for ships up to 45 metres, restricted to Offshore Limits
IC1 Initial Construction 1 – All materials for ships up to 35 metres, restricted to Offshore Limits
P1r Periodic 1r – All materials for ships up to 35 metres, restricted to Offshore Limits
This Certificate Of Surveyor Recognition allows Maritime Survey Australia to provide complete plan approval on New Zealand designed and built commercial vessels in order to assist local NZ counterparts who are not accredited to complete plan approval. In addition, MSA can also complete plan approval and initial surveys on vessels built in Australia which are to be operated in New Zealand.
